HAPPY TURKEY DAY!!!!

Happy Thanksgiving!!!!
Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. We had my sister's family and grandpa over. This was my first time cooking Thanksgiving dinner and if I do say so myself it turned out really well. Everything except the gravy that is because I had no idea how to make gravy and let's just say that it was a difficult thing to do. Other than that it was great. The only thing missing was Addisyn, but she will be here for next Thanksgiving. That is how I think of everything, this time next year she will be here for this or for that.

Nothing new on the case, but we are hoping we will get our usual Friday update. Although we aren't holding our breath on the update because of the holiday weekend.
Keep you updated.
till then....

Comments and sucky stuff...

We got another post from Nichole (AKA Dude) she is so sweet and no we don't have a job for you Dude : ( Eventually she has to find one right, I mean we live in the job capital of the world don't we? Especially Flint - I mean there are jobs EVERYWHERE!!! No there isn't I was just on Monster and MLive looking for a job for me (yes princesses can work) so we can finish paying for the adoption.

Not so good news today - the doctor that was suppose to buy the clinic said no so we are going to have to close the doors. This means no money to finish paying for the adoption. We still owe $10,000!!!! We have no idea what we are going to do we were thinking a equity loan, but you have to have equity to do that, and we have none. We were thinking of just writing a check (from a credit card) to cash and using that, but that doesn't sound too promising. I guess we will just have to pull it out of thin air, but then again that doesn't happen. We are really at a loss. So if anyone who is reading this blog has $10,000 just sitting in your bank account, in a safe, or if you have a money tree in your backyard and want to donate it ALL to us and Addisyn I will email you our address!!! : ) Of course that isn't going to happen, but a girl can dream can't she???

No new updates, but we will let you know when we do.
till then....

New update....

Well we are officially in family court. They want to schedule the DNA for the same day as the social worker interview so that the birth mother has to only make one trip to the city. This means that it might take longer to get DNA so we might not be able to go over Xmas, but we just have to wait and see. I have a feeling we won't know until the a couple of days before we are suppose to go. Also the Family Court has vacations scheduled so lets all hope that we get a social worker who wants to get their work done before they go on vacation.
We'll keep you updated.
till then...

Who me???

Couldn't be, then who?
Well apparently I have offended someone with my postings!!! It isn't my intention to offend anyone. I have an opinion just like everyone else, and this is my (our) blog. You can think my opinion is wrong or stupid, everyone has an opinion. Please don't take anything I say personaly or literally. Sometimes things are meant as a joke and they don't come across that way written out.

Ok enough of that...
On a lighter note we got another post from my siter, Jozett. We also got a post from Grama Gloria. Thanks guys!!!!

We don't have any other news to share.
Again some things are just my opinion and that is all they are, and don't take them personally.

New Medical Update...

Well we got a medical update, but we still haven't got any pictures. Maybe next month, but if not we will be there December 20th!!!!

As of 10/25/06 she was:
9.12 lbs - she is 20 inches long - her head cm. is 14 inches.
She is growing so fast and getting so big. She gained about a pound and a half in a month!!! They must be feeding her well, and she is 2 inches longer.

We are really excited!!
Can't wait to meet her.

DNA, DNA, DNA...

Did you hear we have DNA authorization and they charged our credit card. So we are getting somewhere!!! We are going to be able to see her for Xmas.

This is also the first time the birthmother sees the baby so this is the most likely time that the birthmother changes her mind. We will let you know when we are sure that it has been taken and what the results are.
till then....

Statitics

Taken from the World Fact Book, the World Bank, and US Department of State....

Out of 100 Children born in Guatemala....
1 will be adopted by a US family
5 will not make it to their 5th birthday
22 will NEVER see the inside of a school
28 will NEVER learn how to read and write
74 will NEVER make it to the 7th grade
84 will need to travel over an hour to a health care facility

This really makes you think. I just want everyone to know that, although our Guatemalan princess will have many more oppurtunities than her peers who are raised in Guatemala we are in no way "saving" her. She is saving us from a life without the oppurtunity to love our own child, a life of knowing what it is like to a mom, and a life without her.

There are a few things I would like to explain - eventhough she will be an American when she arrives in the US she is still very much a Gutemalan. We never want her to lose that part of who she is, and we will make every effort to be sure that she is connected to her heritage.

Second, people make the assumption that because we live in the US we need to stand on our soapboxes (like I am doing right now) and be sure we pass on our Western views to everyone else. In Guatemala (and EVERYWHERE else) people place their children for adoption for various reasons. A small percent is for the wrong reasons, but we should all beleive that the majority is for the right reasons.

Women in Guatemala do usually place more than one child for adoption there are reasons for this, such as they are not taught about the female reproduction system. I know you are thinking it is so obvious, but if you never talked about sex and were never taught that sex makes a baby then how would you know. It is also socially taboo to have a baby out of wedlock they will be kicked out of their house and even out of their village or town. Birth control is not available they are Catholic and it is against their religion to use birth control even if it were available. Abortion is illegal and if you are found to have had an abortion you will go to jail. Many of us never know how we would be if would have been born and raised in Guatemala or anywhere, but it is not our place to judge others and it never will be. So just try to imagine that you are in their shoes. If you beleive in god then it his/her place to judge. This also is true will all matters so just keep it in mind.

A few more things...
We understand that people say things and don't realize how it sometimes sounds, but here are some correct words to use and if you forget no big deal we still have a hard time sometimes with them...

"real parents" = biological parents (we will be her "real" parents)

"given up for adoption" = placed for adoption (we don't want her to ever feel as if this was an easy decision or her birth mother gave her away)

I will continue to add to this list as I see fit and don't worry if you don't use all the correct terms, but please try.

Anyway I will get off my soap box now and we will keep everyone informed
till then.....

A new comment....

Since much isn't going on with the adoption I get excited by the smallest things!!!
We got another comment from my sister, Jozett. It was very sweet and we really appreciate being support by family and friends. We have found that some people are more supportive than others, but we expected that. Hopefully EVERYONE will be supportive when our little angel gets home. If some people aren't supportive then it will be thier loss.

I can't beleive that in almost a month (if all goes right) we will be going to visit our daughter. I hope before then we get updated medicals and pictures, but who knows if we will. Everyone keep your fingers crossed that the DNA is done in time for us to spend Christmas with our daughter.

Tomorrow is election day and we are of course going to vote. I told Jenny that if Proposal 3 passes then we are moving to state that has a smaller population of rednecks!!!!

NEW Update...well sort of

This is about a month old, but we just got it and still no new pictures : (
On 9/25 when she was just 6 days old she was 6 pounds 10 ounces. Her length was was 19.4 inches and her head circumfrence was 13.4 inches.
So she is doing well and we are still hoping for new pictures, but we aren't holding our breath.
