Staying busy

Thanks to everyone for your thoughts, concern and prayers for Mia. She is healing really well, it is amazing how fast it is healing. We had her stitches taken out on Monday and started using Merderma on it to try to minimize the scarring.

Last weekend we went to the children's museum and we had a great time. Mia loved the little shopping area. She wanted to push the baby carts (shopping cart) the entire time. We had to drag her away kicking and screaming, literally. Got to love 2 yr olds right?

Then on Sunday we went to her first movie! At our local cinema they have PBS kids time. They show an episode of Curious George and Martha Speaks. They only show it at 10:00 am and you only have to pay $3 per child to get in. Mia did really well and sat through Curious George, but didn't really want to sit for Martha Speaks so we left early. I think her favorite part was eating popcorn at 10 am! Also when we were getting ready to go we were rushing around and Mia said, "going to church" I guess when we go to church we rush around!

Mia has also started dance class. Another mother in our music class teaches dance and she just started her daughter in dance class so I decided to try Mia in dance class too. Of course the parent's aren't usually in the class, but do you think Mia will stay in a class by herself?!? No way! We only paid for one month so I think we will stick it out for that and then stop going and maybe try again in September.

Guess who is a big girl and potty trained!??!!! You guessed it! Mia!!! She is 99% potty trained! She only wears a diaper to bed at night. She wears panties all day and naptime too! We haven't had any accident in days.

obviously pre-dog bite, but I was done doing her hair and she had gotten ahold of the squirt bottle and was squirting herself in the face.

she just kept doing it!

One day when she got out of the bath she got her tutu and wanted it put on. Then she danced!

don't even know what caption would do this picture justice!

done dancing

Jenny got this new scarf and Mia was pretty insistant she wanted to wear "mama's new cute sweater"

Look at my ballerina!

My beauty at the children's museum

Scariest Day Ever

So last Wednesday we were working on potty training and Mia had the sniffles so we decided to skip music class. Mia was eating raisins and Rudy (our dog) was sleeping on the couch. Mia went to get a raisin and on the way back over decided to lay her head on Rudy. He snapped and bit Mia in the face. At first I didn't think he actually bit her until I looked and saw blood everywhere. There was so much blood and I was freaking out. I grabbed a clean diaper and started to apply pressure. I grabbed my phone and called 9-1-1. I gave the operator my info and said that I had to go because I had to call my partner. I called Jenny and she came racing home. I waited for what seemed like forever for the ambulance to get here. Jenny got here at the same time. Mia and I went to the hospital with Jenny following behind us. Mia was screaming the whole time it was terrible. We got to the hospital and they came in and checked her out.

She had two small puncture wounds above her eye three large cuts under her eye, one that needed 5 stitches, a hole through her eye lid and a tear where the eye lashes are. All in all she had to have 7 stitches, we had to hold her down while 3 different people tried 3 different times to get an I.V. in her. She was screaming mama and even Gwen it was one of the most difficult things I have ever had to do. Then we were sent to U of M to be sure there was no damage to eye. We drive 90 minutes to U of M and wait for hours for the optometrist. They dilated her eyes looked in the back of them. It was a total of 12 hours with no nap and no food. In the end they said that we could do surgery for a small tear in her lash line or we could see how it would heal. We chose to let it heal. Then we headed home. We were all exhauseted physically and emotionally.

We came home to a happy dog who wanted to be sure Mia was ok. He ran over to her and kissed her face and she hugged him. She wasn't scared of him at all. It was like they both knew that it was an accident, a split second decision Boo Boo made that changed all of our lives forever. Jenny and I knew what we had to do, but it didn't make things an easier.

The next day I took Rudy to be euthanized. It was the hardest thing I have ever done. I had him for 10 years and he had been a loyal dog. He was severely abused before I got him and has always been a little grumpy. It took him a long time to trust people even me totally. Before Mia he was our baby and we spoiled him. We both loved him so much. I feel really guilty about everything. He had always been really good with Mia and put up with her constant tormenting until last Wednesday.

Mia has been asking about Boo Boo all the time. She will say, "Boo Boo hurt." and point to her eye. Then, "Boo Boo gone." She really misses him and asks for him a couple time a day. We told her that Boo Boo hurt her and he had to go away and he went to heaven where he can't hurt anybody and nobody can hurt him. That it is okay to miss him and we all still love him and he still loves us.

I keep thinking if only I had done this or that. If I had been watching closer or made Rudy get off the couch then all this wouldn't have happened. Mia wouldn't have to possibly have a scar and gone through so much pain and my dog would still be here. So that is that and I am tired of missing my dog, being sad, and feeling guilty.

Gueess what I got???

can you guess with this kick ass picture??

my nikon D40!!! because my wife (although not legally because it is not legal and don't get me started on that) got me an awesome camera! Although my camera is awesome it doesn't get along with my equally awesome computer for some reason they are out to torture me so it is a pain to get pics from here to there.

These pics are from Xmas Eve. We had a great time and Mia loved getting presents!

can you believe how funny I am?

What's in there? It was a ride on horse! She LOVES it!!!

Look Mom, it's a horse!

My grandpa, Jenny and my sis in the background. Notice the drink in Jenny's hand it made Christmas much more enjoyable ; )

Santa brought her a bike!

but she got bored! not really I think Jenny pushed her around on it for hours!

it's fun in case you can't tell.

pure beauty

her bike came with a helmet and she thought she should wear it. She calls it her seatbelt so she can be safe. Get it, Dora?!?

riding her horse

an artsy fartsy picture of my favorite cat of all time, Butterscotch

I didn't name him because I would never name him Butterscotch - not my style but he has been with me for a long time and he is the smartest cat I know.

This is his much younger wife, Penny. She is a favorite too, but not really that smart. If you look at her just right you can see light shine through her eye and I swear right through her little head because she is lacking a brain.
